Meridian Horse Transport carries forward an iconic legacy that began in 1990 as Tasmanian Horse Transport. For over three decades, this business has been a trusted name for horse owners from the apple isle across Eastern Australia, providing first-class service throughout Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland.

A Family Passion

When the ownership opportunity arose in 2019, Elesha and Rodney Spillane, along with their sons Charlie and Jack, knew the business was the perfect fit for their family. Horses are a lifelong passion for the Spillanes, and they bring a unique dual perspective to the transport industry:

  • Equine Expertise: Elesha and Rodney have decades of involvement in the racing industry, including Elesha's background as a professional trainer, and competing in a wide variety of equestrian disciplines.

  • Logistical Precision: Rodney adds deep professional knowledge from years of local and interstate truck driving and managing a large fleet of freight trucks.

We understand horse behaviour and the vital importance of a stress-free travel experience for both horse and owner.

Our Journey & Moving Forward

After six years of proudly serving the community as Tasmanian Horse Transport, our family and operations transitioned to mainland Australia in 2024 to support our growing interstate network.

As our business evolved, we made a decision to focus primarily on our interstate routes of Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. We then recognised the need for a name that reflected this. Meridian Horse Transport represents our specialised commitment to our primary interstate routes.

Our Ongoing Commitment to Tasmania

While we have had to scale back local Tasmanian and Bass Strait services due to current logistical and insurance challenges, we have not given up on our roots.

We are actively looking into alternative ways to provide transport to and from Tasmania that meet our standards of care and operational viability. Tasmania remains a vital part of our history, and we continue to work toward solutions for the island’s equestrian community.
